Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extractions in Yorkville and Scarborough

During your visit to our dental office in Yorkville or Scarborough, our dentists may determine that you need a tooth to be removed. A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the dental socket in the jawbone.

There are numerous reasons why a tooth may need to be removed. Most commonly, it is due to severe decay, a tooth fracture, or periodontal disease. Other times, it may be needed due poor positioning or insufficient space in the mouth, which can cause further issues in the future.

What happens following a tooth extraction?

Following a tooth extraction, our dentist will clean the site thoroughly to remove all debris, tooth fragments, and infected tissue. If necessary, stitches are also applied to prevent complications.

Shortly after, a blood clot will form to allow the extraction site to heal around the wound. Once properly healed, dental implants can be installed and other treatment options such as a bridge are denture can also be considered.

We also offer dental sedation to help make the tooth extraction procedure at our dental office as comfortable as possible. For certain complicated cases patients may require a referral to an oral surgeon.
